Toilet Hand Wash Pipe Hose Replacement Method

英語学習 英語記事

I removed the TOTO S731B handwash fitting to clean it, and the hose that connects the handwash fitting to the inside was torn off due to age…
It is possible to replace it by yourself by purchasing a “hand washing pipe hose” at an online retailer or home improvement center. Here is an explanation of how to replace the hose with pictures.

What is a Hand Wash Tube Hose?

The handwash tube hose is the hose that connects the handwash fitting to the ball tap inside the toilet for water to come out of the handwash fitting when the water is flushed.
If the hose is cut or cracked, you can DIY it yourself by purchasing a “hand wash down tube hose”.

What to prepare

Water pump pliers (left): used to tighten the nut
Hand wash pipe hose (right)

I ordered both from Yodobashi.com because I live in Yodobashi’s free delivery area. (all for less than 1,000 yen)
This time, I did not use the rubber parts that came with the hoses because I was able to reuse the nuts and other parts that originally came with them.

Hand wash down hose: How to replace

How to replace
  • STEP1
    shut off the water valve

  • STEP2
Attach hand wash fittings and nuts

Set the handwash fitting in the hole in the tank lid, and from the back side of the tank lid, fit the slip washer, then the nut, in that order, hand-tightening the nut, and finally tightening it firmly with water pump pliers.
After tightening the nut, check that the handwash tube is secured in the correct position.

  • STEP3
Connect hose and hose nut to hand wash fittings

Set the nut for the hose (insert it firmly to the bottom of the hose) → packing on the hand wash pipe hose.
Insert the hose into the handwash fitting and tighten the nut firmly by hand.

  • STPE4
    Connect hose to ball tap

Insert the hose firmly and deeply into the ball tap.

  • STPE5
Open the faucet and let the water run to check.

Flush with water to check if it works properly and complete.

When I ran the water for the final check, the volume of water was the same as “large” even though I ran the water on “small”. I was surprised. The cause was that the hose was touching the float bubble chain and the float bubble was not working properly. I fixed it by fixing the position of the hose so that it did not touch the chain or other parts, so please check the position of the hose if you encounter the same situation.
