Our family used two types of tabletop cooking devices, a hot plate and a cassette stove, but we have now abandoned the hot plate.

The hot plate began to burn and the entire hot plate needed to be replaced with a new one, as it was not sold with just the plate portion.
Since I owned an Iwatani cassette stove as I do when I do pots and pans, I bought a plate of a size that could be used with the cassette stove and discarded the hot plate.
Iwatani sold a plate specifically for cassette stoves, but it was a little small in size and I doubted that the Teflon coating would last long, so I bought a 32-centimeter iron plate on Amazon that was the same round shape as the hot plate I was using.

I thought before using it that it might be a little difficult to handle because it is an iron plate,

  • If oil is spread on the pan after use and stored, and the pan is well oiled and heated before use, it will not burn.
  • Okonomiyaki cooks crispy on the surface and fluffy on the inside. Gyoza dumpling skins also cook crispy on the bottom.
  • The size is the same as the hot plate, so the glass lid for the hot plate can be used without modification.
  • No need to disassemble and reassemble when washing.

and better than I have ever had with a hot plate.
The downside was that it was heavy because it was steel

Hot plates are indispensable because they allow you to enjoy freshly prepared hot dishes on the table.
